MOCA minimakers: Cosmic Drawings
Jun 06, 2026
Starting: 2:00 PM
Children and caregivers can experiment with automatic drawing techniques in a hands-on artmaking workshop inspired by queer artist Sharmistha Ray. miniMakers: Cosmic Drawings takes place Saturday, June 6, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami. The free program invites families to create abstract compositions using patterns, shapes, symbols and expressive mark-making.
Inspired by Ray’s Automatic Writings series, participants will let their hands move freely across the page to create layered “cosmic landscapes” shaped by feelings, memories, music and imagination. Using drawing materials and repeated forms influenced by sacred geometry, young artists can build colorful works that explore movement, emotion and personal storytelling.
miniMakers is MOCA’s monthly artmaking series for children ages 6-12 and their caregivers. Held on the first Saturday of each month, the program is inspired by the museum’s exhibitions, featured artists and seasonal themes.
