MUVE Volunteer Workday
Jul 18, 2026
From: 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM
Native planting and beach cleanup activities give volunteers a hands-on role in restoring coastal habitat at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park. MUVE Volunteer Workday takes place Saturday, July 18, through the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science’s Museum Volunteers for the Environment program. Hosted in partnership with the Miami Community ResilientSea Project, the event supports habitat restoration and climate resilience work across Miami-Dade County.
Participants will help plant native species and clean the beach to enhance coastal habitats. MUVE uses community science, environmental outreach and volunteer-based restoration to connect residents with South Florida ecosystems, including mangrove forests, beach dunes, freshwater wetlands and coastal hammocks. The program began as an eco-art initiative by artist Xavier Cortada and has since grown into a long-running habitat restoration effort led by Frost Science.
All tools and materials will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle and wear closed-toe shoes, sun and bug protection and clothing suitable for outdoor work. Check-in will be near the restoration plot at the back of Historic Virginia Key Beach Park, with complimentary parking available. Community service hours are offered, and participants must complete the Frost Science liability waiver during registration.
