New Music Miami ISCM Festival: Curtis Stewart
Apr 15, 2026
From: 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM
A closing-night concert brings the festival to a forward-looking finish with music shaped by experimentation, identity and genre-crossing fluency.
XXIX New Music Miami ISCM Festival: Curtis Stewart takes place at The Betsy - South Beach on Miami Beach, featuring guest composer and violinist Curtis Stewart in collaboration with the FIU NODUS Ensemble. Stewart, a seven-time GRAMMY® Award nominee, is widely recognized for a compositional voice that moves fluidly between contemporary classical practice, improvisation and influences drawn from across musical traditions.
The program centers on Stewart’s works, which often examine personal and collective identity while challenging conventional boundaries of form and sound. His music combines rigorous craft with emotional directness, resulting in performances that are both conceptually driven and viscerally engaging. The FIU NODUS Ensemble, known for its commitment to adventurous new music, brings this material to life with precision and expressive range.
This concert serves as the closing event of the XXIX New Music Miami ISCM Festival, a long-running series dedicated to presenting contemporary music in intimate settings. The evening begins with a 7:00 p.m. conversation with the guest composer, followed by a 7:30 p.m. performance.
Presented by the FIU Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts with support from the City of Miami Beach and partner institutions, the event is free and open to the public.
