New Music Miami ISCM Festival: Music from North & South America
Mar 25, 2026
From: 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM
A contemporary chamber program traces musical dialogues across the Americas, pairing experimental energy with cross-cultural perspective.
XXIX New Music Miami ISCM Festival: Music from North and South America unfolds at The Betsy - South Beach on Miami Beach, featuring the FIU NODUS Ensemble in a program that brings together composers whose work reflects the breadth and complexity of today’s new-music landscape. The concert highlights guest composer Alex Burtzos, an American composer, conductor and educator whose genre-fluid writing draws from jazz, rock and avant-garde traditions while resisting easy classification.
The evening also includes works by Marvin Camacho and Eddie Mora of Costa Rica, Andy Akiho (USA) and Diana Arismendi of Venezuela. Together, their music explores rhythmic invention, timbral experimentation and distinct cultural vantage points, creating a dynamic North-South exchange shaped by contemporary voices from across the hemisphere.
This concert is part of the XXIX New Music Miami ISCM Festival, a long-running series dedicated to presenting adventurous new music in intimate settings. Each Wednesday program begins with a conversation with the guest composer at 7:00 p.m., followed by a 7:30 p.m. performance.
Presented by the FIU Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts, with support from the City of Miami Beach and partner institutions, the event is free and open to the public.
