From: 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM
Four principal musicians from America's oldest symphony orchestra join with an internationally acclaimed clarinetist for an intimate evening showcasing Romantic chamber music masterpieces.
The New York Philharmonic Quartet with Alexander Fiterstein takes place Monday, February 9, 2026, at Coral Gables Congregational Church. The New York Philharmonic String Quartet comprises four principal musicians from the orchestra: Concertmaster Frank Huang, Principal Second Violin Group Qianqian Li, Principal Viola Cynthia Phelps and Principal Cello Carter Brey. The group was formed in January 2017, during the Philharmonic's 175th anniversary season.
Alexander Fiterstein is a renowned clarinetist and a recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant Award. He won first prize at the Carl Nielsen International Clarinet Competition and has been praised by the New York Times for possessing a "beautiful liquid clarity." As soloist he has appeared with the Czech, Israel, Vienna and St. Paul Chamber Orchestras, Belgrade Philharmonic, Danish National Radio Symphony, Tokyo Philharmonic, China National Symphony Orchestra, among others.
The evening’s program features Johannes Brahms’ Clarinet Quintet in B minor, Op. 115—one of the composer’s late-period masterworks and a cornerstone of Romantic repertoire.
This performance is presented by Friends of Chamber Music of Miami in collaboration with Coral Gables Congregational Church and through the generous support of the City of Coral Gables.
