Next Stop: 16mm — Short Films
Jun 13, 2026
From: 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Rare 16mm short films will be projected inside the Opa-locka Historic Train Station as part of the city’s centennial year programming. The Saturday, June 13, screening marks Opa-locka’s 100th anniversary with an evening of analog cinema, local history and community gathering. Presented in partnership with the Miami-Dade Public Library System’s AV Club and nonprofit Ten North Group, the program invites visitors into one of the city’s most distinctive landmarks.
The curated selection of 16mm prints includes Popeye, the animated character created by Fleischer Studios, which operated in Miami during the 1930s. Shown on a real film projector, the screening offers a chance to experience short films in a format that connects the material history of cinema with the architectural history of the train station.
Located at 490 Ali Baba Avenue, the Opa-locka Historic Train Station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The event is free and open to the public, with advance registration through Eventbrite required due to very limited seating. A local food truck will be on site with food available for purchase.
