North Beach Social: David Rivera y La Bámbula

Puerto Rican bomba y plena meet Afro-Cuban, jazz and global rhythms in a free North Beach Social concert at the Miami Beach Bandshell. David Rivera y La Bámbula performs Thursday, July 16, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the show at 8 p.m. Co-presented by Rhythm Foundation and Escala Sonora, the evening highlights African Caribbean musical traditions through percussion, call-and-response vocals and danceable grooves.

Led by percussionist David Rivera, La Bámbula draws from the rhythmic foundations of bomba and plena while incorporating broader diasporic influences. The group’s sound combines hand drums, ensemble vocals and contemporary arrangements that honor tradition while expanding its reach for modern audiences.

North Beach Social is a free monthly music series held on the third Thursday of each month at the Miami Beach Bandshell. Organized by Rhythm Foundation, the series focuses on Miami-based artists working across international genres and is part of the City of Miami Beach’s monthly Culture Crawl.
