One Is Two and Two Are Many More
Nov 19, 2025 - Jan 18, 2026
From: Noon to 5:00 PM
Marking Oolite Arts’ 40th anniversary, this exhibition looks back at four decades of artist-led experimentation that helped define Miami’s contemporary cultural landscape. Installed at Oolite’s Miami Beach campus, One Is Two and Two Are Many More highlights the networks, collectives and creative initiatives that have intersected with the organization since its founding, from the Alliance Film/Video Co-Op and Ground Level Gallery to the Listening Gallery, Imperfect Utopia, and CAVA.
The presentation features works by Carlos Betancourt, william cordova, Dara Friedman, Regina José Galindo, Luis Gispert, GeoVanna Gonzalez, Jillian Mayer, Robert Melee and Tag Purvis, along with a film series curated by Barron Sherer. Together, these projects trace how collaboration, shared resources and grassroots production shaped Miami’s evolving artistic identity.
Among the works on view is Luis Gispert’s Hold the Mic with a Grudge (1998), a sculptural platform fitted with speakers and sensors that transforms audience presence into sound. Drawn from the city’s late-1990s underground, from DIY music spaces to skate ramps and makeshift clubs, the piece captures a moment when Miami’s cultural output grew from communal energy and improvisation.
Throughout the exhibition, visitors are invited to consider how these intersecting scenes built the platforms, both literal and metaphorical, that continue to support Miami’s creative community.
The exhibition runs from November 19 through January 18 at Oolite Arts on Miami Beach.
