Hampton Art Lovers presents a curated panoramic experience at Miami Art Week/Art Basel/Soul Basel at the Historic Ward Rooming House in Historic Overtown. Point Comfort Art Fair will inspire and engage with a curated cultural experience celebrating our roots. “Point Comfort” is derived from the place in colonial Virginia where the first captives from the West African Kingdom of Ndongo (Angola) arrived in 1619. The people of Ndongo and other African tribes lost their native tongues and many of their traditions here in America. Through tremendous adversity, remnants of these lost traditions continue to express themselves in the song, dance, art and crafts of today's African-American community. Today, African American Art is a leading force in American Fine Art, our mission is to showcase and celebrate its masters and emerging artists.

In a year of immense social turmoil and the national pandemic due to COVID-19, which limited our social interactions, African American culture re-imagined new modes of thinking and living. The importance of culture has a renewed value and focus in this landscape of social justice and public health. In this effort, Point Comfort's activities will be focused in our outdoor space, with limited indoor activities in the gallery. We will ensure all required COVID restrictions (and temperature checks) in both our gallery and our open air enclosed space surrounding the gallery.

Point Comfort features three connected activities:

Point Comfort Art Show: UNCOVER the legacy of historic African American Fine Art

Point Comfort Art Show: DISCOVER the works of emerging and appreciated artists

Point Comfort Art INDABA: UNDERSTAND the works with artist interviews and discussions

We are a proud partner of Soul Basel. Soul Basel was formed to ensure that Black Art and Culture has a place and a home in Miami during Art Basel/Miami Art Week. Soul Basel is centered in Overtown, sometimes known as the “Harlem of Miami”. Soul Basel is sponsored and supported by Miami City Commission Chairman Keon Hardemon, the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (SEOPWCRA) and the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) Art of Black Miami.
