Prayer for the French Republic
Mar 20, 2026 - Apr 19, 2026
weekly on Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
A Parisian family’s quiet life is upended when a violent act forces them to confront the rising tide of antisemitism in their own backyard. Through conversations that span generations, they must reconcile personal history with current fears, asking what it means to feel truly at home.
Prayer for the French Republic, running March 20 through April 19, 2026, at GableStage at the Biltmore, marks the regional premiere of Joshua Harmon’s acclaimed drama. Known for works like Bad Jews and Admissions, Harmon blends sharp dialogue and dark humor to explore themes of identity, belonging and generational trauma. The play follows the Solomon Benhamou family, whose roots in France stretch back decades, as they grapple with questions of safety, faith and national identity after their teenage son is assaulted for wearing a yarmulke.
Originally extended twice during its Broadway run, the play is directed in this production by GableStage Producing Artistic Director Bari Newport. It is presented with sponsorship from Roz and Charles Stuzin as part of GableStage’s 27th season. Single tickets go on sale August 26.
