May 09, 2026
Starting: 8:00 PM
A contemporary dance performance at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center centers on environmental loss and resilience through a world premiere inspired by a true ecological story.
Dance NOW! Miami Program III Featuring “Love-less: Dance of the Last Moho braccatus” takes place Saturday, May 9 at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. Presented by Dance NOW! Miami, the program is anchored by a new work from co-artistic director Hannah Baumgarten that draws on the extinction of the Moho braccatus, a Hawaiian songbird lost to habitat destruction and climate change.
Love-less is a contemporary ballet that translates this history into movement, exploring themes of connection, fragility and disappearance. The work is set to an original score by Italian composer Federico Bonacossa, which incorporates and reinterprets the recorded calls of the bird, including the final call documented in 1987 after the death of the last known female.
In addition to the world premiere, the evening features selected works from Dance NOW! Miami’s 26th season, offering a broader view of the company’s contemporary repertoire. The performance begins at 8 p.m.
