Read to Filth
Apr 26, 2026
A coastal cleanup and poetry workshop combine environmental action with humor and performance in the mangroves of Key Biscayne. Taking place Sunday, April 26, Read to Filth is part of the O, Miami Poetry Festival and invites participants to engage with both landscape and language in an interactive outdoor setting.
The experience begins with a guided cleanup led by environmental advocate Andrew Otazo, focusing on collecting debris along the mangrove shoreline. Following the cleanup, participants gather for a poetry session led by drag performer Auntie Maim and poet Nicole Combeau, exploring the limerick form as a playful way to express critique and release. Attendees are invited to share their work in an open, supportive environment.
Blending ecological awareness with creative expression, the event reflects the festival’s emphasis on site-specific, participatory poetry experiences. Gloves and cleanup materials are provided, and participants are encouraged to come prepared for outdoor conditions.
