Revisiting Modern Cuban Painters: From Archive to Exhibition
Sep 15, 2026
From: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Archival research and firsthand artistic perspectives shape a conversation on how Cuban modernism is documented, interpreted and presented at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum FIU. The program takes place Tuesday, September 15, with Elizabeth Goizueta, Cristina Figueroa Vives and artist María Martínez-Cañas examining the sources and narratives that inform the history of modern Cuban art.
Building on The Rest of the Story: Cuban Modernism Through Time, the discussion considers archival materials, primary documents and curatorial research as tools for recovering overlooked histories and reassessing established interpretations. The panelists will also explore how exhibitions can reshape public understanding of artists, movements and cultural context across generations.
