Roots and Canvas: Tracing Miami's Haitian Art Legacy

Artists, curators and filmmakers examine how Haitian art has shaped Miami’s cultural landscape and how its visual language continues to evolve. The curated conversation takes place Saturday, August 22 at The Gallery at The Betsy in Miami Beach. Presented as part of the hotel’s From Venice with Love programming, the discussion considers the traditions, ideas and creative voices influencing the next chapter of Haitian art.

Hosted by Rebecca Friedman, the panel is anchored by artist Edouard Duval-Carrié. Invited participants include Haitian-born writer, researcher and curator Alexia Vorbe, whose work focuses on Caribbean art and visual culture, and filmmaker and visual artist Dudley Alexis, whose practice explores history, identity and multicultural perspectives.

The program accompanies From Venice with Love: Edouard Duval-Carrié Retrospective, on view at The Betsy Gallery through November 15. Related installations include nightly video art projections on The Betsy Orb throughout August and an illuminated installation in B Bar. The conversation is free and open to the public.
