The Scottish myth of the selkie, a being both woman and seal, comes to life in Seolh, a contemporary dance-theater work choreographed and directed by Thryn Saxon. Performed by eight women who embody distinct iterations of the myth, the piece explores the search for belonging when one’s sense of home is fractured.
Through movement and relationships onstage, the dancers traverse temptation and danger, conflict and tenderness, wisdom and resilience. An original score by Bre Short deepens the atmosphere, weaving haunting textures that evoke memory, loss, and transformation.
SAXYN Danceworks performs Seolh at The Moss Center October 3–5.
