Screening of Estamos Conectados
Jun 09, 2026
From: 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
A documentary screening at the Freedom Tower examines art, activism and political resistance through the story of Cuban artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara. The screening of Estamos Conectados takes place Tuesday, June 9, presented by the Museum of Art and Design at Miami Dade College. Directed by Ernesto Fundora, the film explores how Otero Alcántara’s performance practice became intertwined with public protest and demands for free expression in Cuba.
Known to supporters as Luisma, Otero Alcántara became a central figure in the Movimiento San Isidro, a resistance movement named for the Havana street where he lived. His work and activism challenged the Cuban government and helped inspire the broader cultural movement surrounding “Patria y Vida,” the anthem associated with the historic anti-government protests of July 11, 2021. He is currently imprisoned for his political activism.
The event is presented in conjunction with the Institute for Freedom in the Americas at Miami Dade College. Attendees may park for free in the MDC garage at 500 NE Second Avenue, between NE Fifth and NE Sixth streets. The Museum of Art and Design may document the event, including attendees, for future use.
