Sea Secrets Lecture Series with Marybeth Arcodia, Ph.D.
Mar 10, 2026
From: 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM
New advances in artificial intelligence are reshaping the ways scientists identify patterns, uncover predictability and forecast climate behavior. This installment of the 2026 Sea Secrets Lecture Series features atmospheric scientist Marybeth Arcodia, Ph.D., whose research bridges Earth system science and AI-driven methods to better understand how the climate is changing and what that means for future risk.
The lecture held Tuesday, March 10 at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School, will examine how machine learning tools, paired with explainable, transparent techniques, are revealing new sources of predictability within the chaotic climate system. Arcodia will discuss how these approaches improve long-range forecasts, enhance understanding of extreme events and support decision-making in the face of a warming planet.
A reception follows the program, offering attendees an opportunity to continue the conversation and engage with the scientific themes explored in the lecture.
