Experience a rare moment of peace amid the chaos of war in Silent Night, presented by Florida Grand Opera as part of its 2025–2026 season. Performances will take place November 15, 16 and 18 at the Adrienne Arsht Center.
With music by Kevin Puts and a libretto by Mark Campbell, this Pulitzer Prize–winning opera is based on the 2005 film Joyeux Noël and recounts the remarkable Christmas Eve truce of 1914. In the trenches of World War I, French, Scottish and German soldiers set aside their weapons for one night—drawn together by memory, music and a shared longing for humanity. The story centers on a German opera singer conscripted into service, whose voice inspires an unofficial ceasefire and an evening of fragile connection.
Puts’s score blends intimate folk melodies with sweeping cinematic orchestration, capturing the tension of war and the profound beauty of unexpected unity. Directed by Tomer Zvulun, this production has earned multiple awards, including the Irish Times Theatre Award for Best Opera, and has captivated audiences around the world.
Presented with English and Spanish supertitles, Silent Night opens the new season and marks the launch of Florida Grand Opera’s Voices of Wellness initiative, which invites first responders, veterans, military personnel and medical professionals to attend free of charge.
