SoundScape Cinema Series: Devotion
Feb 25, 2026
Starting: 8:00 PM
A historical war drama grounded in friendship and moral courage unfolds during an outdoor screening at SoundScape Park.
SoundScape Cinema Series: Devotion takes place Wednesday, February 25 at SoundScape Park. Directed by J.D. Dillard, the 2022 film is based on the true story of U.S. Navy pilots Jesse Brown and Tom Hudner during the Korean War. Brown, portrayed by Jonathan Majors, became the first African American naval aviator to complete carrier training, while Glen Powell plays Hudner, his wingman and close friend. The film centers less on spectacle than on the personal bond between the two men, examining duty, sacrifice and loyalty within a segregated military system.
Adapted from the book Devotion: An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship and Sacrifice by Adam Makos, the film places historical context alongside character-driven storytelling, highlighting a lesser-known chapter of U.S. military history through an intimate lens.
The screening is part of the City of Miami Beach’s SoundScape Cinema Series and begins at 8 p.m. Admission is free with no ticket required. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating on the lawn and enjoy the film on the New World Center’s large-scale outdoor projection wall.
