A historical drama depicting a pivotal moment in American history screens outdoors at SoundScape Park as part of the City of Miami Beach’s programming in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary. Taking place Wednesday, May 20, Lincoln is presented within the SoundScape Cinema Series.
Directed by Steven Spielberg and released in 2012, the film focuses on President Abraham Lincoln’s efforts to secure passage of the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery in the United States. Daniel Day-Lewis stars as Lincoln in an Academy Award–winning performance, alongside a cast that includes Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The film is noted for its detailed portrayal of political negotiation during the final months of the Civil War.
Now in its 15th season, the SoundScape Cinema Series offers free weekly screenings in a 2.5-acre park adjacent to the New World Center. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating on the lawn and enjoy the film on the New World Center’s large-scale outdoor projection wall. Admission is free and no tickets are required.
