SoundScape Cinema Series: Past Lives
May 06, 2026
Starting: 8:00 PM
Celine Song’s film Past Lives screens outdoors at SoundScape Park, exploring connection, separation and the weight of unfinished relationships.
The free screening takes place Wednesday, May 6. Written and directed by Song, the 2023 film follows Nora and Hae Sung, childhood friends separated when Nora’s family emigrates from South Korea. Decades later, they reunite in New York City for a brief but emotionally charged week that brings questions of destiny, identity and life choices into sharp focus.
Characterized by restrained pacing and an introspective tone, the film examines themes of immigration, longing and emotional intimacy through subtle performances and dialogue-driven storytelling rather than overt drama.
Part of the City of Miami Beach’s SoundScape Cinema Series, the film viewing begins at 8 p.m. Admission is free with no ticket required. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating on the lawn and enjoy the film on the New World Center’s large-scale outdoor projection wall.
