SoundScape Cinema Series: Past Lives
May 06, 2026
Starting: 8:00 PM
A quietly resonant relationship drama anchors an outdoor screening that reflects on time, memory and the paths not taken.
SoundScape Cinema Series: Past Lives takes place Wednesday, May 6 at SoundScape Park. Written and directed by Celine Song, the 2023 film follows Nora and Hae Sung, childhood friends separated when Nora’s family emigrates from South Korea. Years later, the two reconnect in New York City, spending a brief but emotionally charged week confronting questions of destiny, identity and the lives shaped by chance and choice.
Marked by its restrained pacing and introspective tone, the film explores themes of immigration, longing and emotional intimacy, drawing on subtle performances and dialogue-driven storytelling rather than overt drama.
The screening is part of the City of Miami Beach’s SoundScape Cinema Series and begins at 8 p.m. Admission is free with no ticket required. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating on the lawn and enjoy the film on the New World Center’s large-scale outdoor projection wall.
