Spring Mix: Vamos! To the Beach
May 01, 2026 - May 03, 2026
Fri-Sat: 7:30 PM | Sun: 2:00 PM
Mythic storytelling, bold contemporary choreography and surf-inspired ballet come together in a vibrant season finale at the Adrienne Arsht Center.
Presented as part of Miami City Ballet’s 2025/2026 season, Spring Mix: Vamos! To the Beach runs May 1–3 and captures the city’s spirit through three distinctive works. The program opens with George Balanchine’s Apollo, set to a Stravinsky score, which reimagines the myth of the young god of music as he finds his artistic voice under the guidance of three Muses, rendered in Balanchine’s refined neoclassical style.
A world premiere by Lauren Lovette follows, bringing a fresh, emotionally resonant perspective to the stage. Drawing on her experience as a former principal dancer with New York City Ballet, Lovette’s choreography blends classical form with explorations of power, vulnerability and contemporary expression.
Closing the evening is the company premiere of Twyla Tharp’s Deuce Coupe, a genre-blending ballet set to the music of The Beach Boys. Originally created in 1973, the piece merges ballet with everyday movement, capturing the energy of West Coast youth culture and pioneering the crossover between classical and popular dance forms.
