Stitched Memories: A Mother’s Day Bookmaking Workshop
May 02, 2026
From: 10:00 AM to 03:00 AM
A hands-on workshop at Oolite Arts invites participants to transform personal photographs into handmade books through embroidery and binding techniques. The session takes place Saturday, May 2, offering a collaborative experience designed for mothers and their children.
Guided by artists Diana Larrea and Kiki Chirinos, the workshop introduces basic embroidery on paper, encouraging participants to reinterpret family images through stitching and visual storytelling. The process culminates in the creation of a small artist book using Japanese stab-binding, turning selected photographs into a tactile narrative.
Larrea, a filmmaker and visual artist whose work explores memory and migration, and Chirinos, a textile artist specializing in traditional Peruvian techniques, bring complementary perspectives to the session. Together, they lead a structured yet reflective process that emphasizes creativity, connection and the preservation of personal histories.
