Stitched Statements: Textile Banners with Cheryl Pope
Jul 05, 2026
From: 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Textile art, language and personal expression come together in a hands-on banner-making workshop at PAMM. Stitched Statements: Textile Banners with Cheryl Pope takes place Sunday, July 5 at Pérez Art Museum Miami. The workshop draws inspiration from the museum’s Get in the Game: Sports, Art, Culture exhibition, including Pope’s own letter jacket artwork and other works that use sports banners, pennants, flags and fashion to communicate ideas.
Participants will reflect on language and writing before designing felt lettering and arranging it on banner backings. Using simple appliqué and hand-stitching techniques, they will create decorative textile wall hangings with messages connected to everyday life, personal reflection, social justice or play.
Cheryl Pope is an interdisciplinary artist whose textile-based work explores identity, race, gender and community. Based in Miami and Chicago, she has exhibited widely and is among the artists featured in Get in the Game: Sports, Art, Culture. The workshop is designed for participants ages 14 and older and is free with museum admission.
