Symbiotic House: Lee Pivnik
May 14, 2026
Starting: 6:30 PM
Miami-based artist Lee Pivnik discusses ecological interdependence and multispecies design during an evening lecture at The Kampong in Coconut Grove. The program is part of the ongoing Symbiotic House series examining the relationship between architecture, ecology and participatory research.
Taking place Thursday, May 14, the talk highlights Pivnik’s interdisciplinary practice, which draws from living systems to imagine futures shaped by mutualism rather than extraction. Working across sculpture, drawing and installation, he explores connections between species and their environments, referencing fungal networks, epiphytic plants and animal-built structures found in South Florida.
Pivnik is the founder and co-director of the Institute of Queer Ecology, a collaborative platform that has partnered with more than 150 artists on projects centered on interconnectivity and multispecies relationships. His work has been presented at institutions including the Guggenheim Museum, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami and Centre Pompidou-Metz. He is a recipient of Knight Arts Challenge Awards and a 2025 Creative Capital Award.
The Symbiotic House lecture series brings together artists and designers whose practices engage architecture and ecological thought through research and public dialogue.
