The Art of Building: A Panel on Cultivating Community
Jun 19, 2026
From: 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Black culture, creative leadership and community-building frame a Juneteenth panel inspired by the spirit of the cookout. The Art of Building: A Panel On Cultivating Community takes place Friday, June 19, at Reserved MIA Little River. Presented by Maalik Meets, Burgundy XYZ and Omni Sound Space, the event brings together Black artists, organizers and cultural voices for a conversation on longevity, connection and the spaces that sustain community.
The panel features Jeanie, the creator behind Thank You!, recording artist Twelve’len of Velvet Velour and artist-curator Lauryn Lawrence. Moderated by Maalik of Maalik Meets, the discussion will explore how Black creative spaces are built, nurtured and carried forward across generations.
The evening is designed as both a gathering and a dialogue, with the cookout serving as a cultural reference point for food, music, conversation and shared experience. Through the perspectives of its panelists, the program considers how culture is preserved, expanded and made visible through the people and places that hold it.
