The Christmas Truce of 1914
Oct 22, 2025
From: 10:00 AM to Noon
Music and history intertwine in a program commemorating the Christmas Truce of 1914, when opposing soldiers paused World War I combat to share in the holiday spirit. Inspired by Silent Night, the Pulitzer Prize-winning opera by Kevin Puts, the event features performances by Florida Grand Opera Studio Artists alongside commentary from historians Dr. Jessica Adler and Dr. Rebecca Friedman.
The Christmas Truce of 1914 takes place Wednesday, October 22 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs, SIPA II, Room 259. Presented in partnership with Florida Grand Opera, the free program offers an early glimpse of Silent Night, which runs November 15 through December 6 as part of the opera’s season.
