The Cultured Cup
Aug 30, 2025
From: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Engage with Miami’s contemporary art scene through a morning of conversation, coffee and creative exchange at the Deering Estate.
Part of The Cultured Cup artist talk series, this installment on Saturday, August 30 features Gretchen Scharnagl, a current Deering Estate Artist-in-Residence. Scharnagl will discuss Entangled in the Mangroves: Florida Everglades Through Installation, her solo exhibition currently on view at The Baker Museum in Naples. Her environmentally engaged work explores connections between natural systems and human impact using materials like found objects, scientific research and poetic visual language.
The Cultured Cup series highlights the off-campus exhibitions and ongoing practices of Deering Estate’s Studio and Non-Studio Artists-in-Residence, creating opportunities to connect with Miami’s broader network of arts and cultural organizations.
The talk takes place in the Deering Estate Visitor Center Theater, with doors opening at 11:15 a.m. and the presentation beginning at 11:30 a.m. Pink Elephant Coffee will be stationed nearby, serving from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for non-members and free with online registration for Deering Estate Foundation members.
