The Elixir of Love

Audiences can look forward to a charming operatic experience as Gaetano Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love comes to life at the Adrienne Arsht Center. On February 1, 2 and 4, 2025, the Florida Grand Opera will present this light-hearted production Ziff Ballet Opera House. Directed by Matt Cooksey, this light-hearted production explores the amusing complexities of love through the story of Nemorino, a naive young man infatuated with the independent and spirited Adina. In a desperate attempt to win her affection, Nemorino turns to a quack doctor, Dulcamara, and his so-called love potion, setting off a series of comical events.

As the potion’s effects take hold, Nemorino’s newfound confidence begins to attract attention, leading to a mix of heartfelt moments and humorous misunderstandings. Donizetti’s music, with highlights like Nemorino’s famous aria Una furtiva lagrima, captures the blend of romance and comedy that has made The Elixir of Love a classic for nearly two centuries. Performed in Italian with English and Spanish translations.
