The Joy of Aztec Dance: A Celebration of Culture & Resilience
Aug 23, 2026
Starting: 1:00 PM
Traditional dance, music and hands-on cultural activities introduce families to living Mexican Indigenous traditions at Green Space Miami. The Joy of Aztec Dance: A Celebration of Culture and Resilience takes place Sunday, August 23 in Miami’s Upper East Side. Presented by Ameyal Mexican Cultural Academy and Tonalxochitl Comunidad de Danza Azteca de Concheros, the program centers on Aztec/Conchero dance as a practice of cultural memory, resilience and community connection.
The event begins with a traditional dance presentation, followed by a short video featuring children from the community discussing how dance has shaped their cultural identity and confidence. Young attendees will then have the opportunity to learn simple movements and cultural traditions in an interactive setting. Additional performances and audience participation lead into a closing presentation of Son Jarocho Afro-Mexican and Indigenous music, song and dance.
A related cultural exhibition features photographs of Aztec dancers from across the country, regalia displayed on mannequins and an interactive table with traditional instruments and ceremonial items for children and families to explore. Guests should note that Green Space Miami is located within a residential-only parking zone, and parking on NE 72nd Street is discouraged.
