Apr 10, 2026
Starting: 7:30 PM
A world premiere anchors an evening of contemporary music from one of Frost’s leading new-music ensembles.
When Wood and Metal Become Alive: Ensemble Ibis takes place Friday, April 10 at the University of Miami's Gusman Concert Hall. Conducted by Shawn Crouch, the program features the debut of When Wood and Metal Become Alive, a concerto for sinfonietta by San Francisco Bay Area composer Mark Winges.
Written for the virtuosic players of Ensemble Ibis, the new work explores the interplay between organic resonance and mechanical force, drawing on contrasting textures and timbral color. The concert also includes additional contemporary selections that reflect the ensemble’s commitment to adventurous programming and cutting-edge repertoire.
Ensemble Ibis, the University of Miami’s resident contemporary music group, is known for championing new works and collaborating closely with living composers, offering audiences direct engagement with music of the present moment.
