Whistling to Death: The Poetry of Nilo Cruz in Song
Jun 13, 2026
Starting: 5:30 PM
Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz’s poetry and dramatic imagery are translated into song in a one-night concert at Sanctuary of the Arts. Whistling to Death: The Poetry of Nilo Cruz in Song takes place Saturday, June 13 in Coral Gables, presented by Arca Images and Miami-Dade County Auditorium. The world premiere is part of Three Times Cruz, a project centered on Cruz’s writing, theatrical language and recurring themes.
Composed and performed by Miranda, with musical arrangements by Carlos Silva and a script by Alexa Kuve, the concert moves through songs and narration inspired by memory, exile, childhood, disguise and language. The program draws on landscapes familiar from Cruz’s theater and poetry, where everyday objects become charged with longing, danger and revelation.
Presented in Spanish with English supertitles, the performance is part of Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home Series, which brings dance, theater and music to partner venues while the auditorium undergoes renovation.
