ZunZún Children's Festival: Love is a Verb

Haitian songs for young audiences and the rhythms of Afro-Caribbean and Latin jazz share the stage in a family-focused double bill at the Miami Beach Bandshell. The 12th annual ZunZún Children’s Fest takes place Sunday, October 18, featuring Inez Barlatier’s Love Is A Verb and JazzReach’s Con Alma y Fuego. The program is presented by FUNDarte and Miami-Dade County Auditorium as part of its Away From Home Series.

Written and performed by Barlatier as Tati Nuzi & Friends, Love Is A Verb uses original songs about giving and receiving love to invite children and families to sing, dance and participate. Commissioned by the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, the concert draws on Barlatier’s Haitian heritage and features a trio of guitar, piano and drums.

Con Alma y Fuego traces the origins and development of Afro-Caribbean and Latin jazz through live narration, music and video projections. Performed by JazzReach’s Metta Quintet, the program highlights artists including Mario Bauzá, Machito, Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Irakere and Eddie Palmieri while examining the African, Spanish, Cuban, Puerto Rican and Dominican influences that helped shape jazz in the Americas.
