Sugar Factory

No family-friendly restaurant in South Beach puts on a show like Sugar Factory, where almost every dish that comes out of the kitchen looks like some kind of Candy Land fantasy. The onsite candy store will be a hit with kids, no doubt, but the steaming liquid nitrogen drinks (many of which have no alcohol) will also make children wide-eyed. The menu reads like an indulgent XL version of a kids’ menu, where double Angus burgers are topped with crispy onions and snuggled up inside brioche buns; seven kinds of tacos are wrapped in homemade corn tortillas; and a grilled four-cheese sandwich on sourdough is served with a side of marinara. Those looking for more sophisticated fare will find it, too, in the form of lobster, salmon and filet mignon. The portions look gigantic even to adult eyes – and for a child, Sugar Factory’s dishes may be the largest plates of food they’ve ever seen.

Big Pink

Big Pink gained a loyal South Beach following as a late-night dining destination for locals. But funnily enough, the same foods adults crave at 2 a.m. are the foods kids crave all day. Pink’s menu of oversized burgers and chicken tenders (did we mention chocolate chip cookies the size of your head?) are tailor-made for young diners. But the Pink menu options are so varied that adults are guaranteed to find foods they’ll like, too. So, while the little ones are playing in the giant pink booths and chowing down on corn dogs and tater tots, mom and dad can savor the seared rare yellowfin tuna sandwich or an 8-ounce filet mignon.

Café Americano offers two locations in South Beach, one on Ocean Drive in the Hotel Victor South Beach and the other on Collins Avenue in the Uma House by Yurbban. Both offer massive menus (this means no matter how picky your kids are, they’ll always find something). But Café Americano doesn’t sacrifice variety for substance, as even parents with sophisticated taste will be surprised by the menu. Whole lobster, snapper, tuna tartare, and mahi-mahi tacos top the lineup.

Yardbird

South Beach’s flagship Southern restaurant has been putting out some of the best fried chicken in the area for over a decade, and though it has a loyal adult following, it’s great for kids. With a kids’ menu that offers chicken tenders, a crispy chicken biscuit, and macaroni and cheese made with five artisanal cheeses (not to mention a side of fresh watermelon), children will feel like they’re truly welcome here. Yardbird’s dessert is standout, too, with a bourbon bacon chocolate cake and banana pudding cheesecake on a list of decadent options.

11th Street Diner

South Beach’s classic diner offers a cross section of clientele almost as diverse as its food. 11th Street’s old-school diner car was built in the 1940s and lived in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, before it moved to its current location in 1992. The menu is typical diner fare, with plenty of burgers, melts and breakfast dishes served both in the classic car and outside on the sunny patio. The diner is open 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays, too – so if you’re traveling with a baby who thinks her 2 a.m. feeding should extend until sunrise or your flight into Miami arrives late and the entire family is starving, you can find a full meal here.

Lincoln Eatery

Strolling Lincoln Road in South Beach is both an entertaining and hunger-inducing adventure. Step a block off Lincoln to a multistory food hall where you can please your kids with burgers and wood-fired pizza. Meanwhile, you can go healthy with a fresh garden bowl or some delicious sushi.

Monty’s Sunset

Yes, Monty’s is first thought of as one of South Beach’s best happy hour spots. But the laid-back atmosphere and waterfront views that garnered it a lively after-work crowd also make it great for families. There are burgers and chicken sandwiches on the menu (though there is no dedicated children’s menu), and the raw bar gives grown-ups the fresh seafood they came to Miami for.

Barton G.

Dinner Only

If you're traveling with older kids, make a reservation at Barton G. This West Avenue special occasion spot in South Beach is as much about showmanship as it is about cuisine. In fact, this restaurant finds new and inventive ways of displaying dishes that few have ever thought of, much less seen. Barton G’s culinary creations come served in everything from dollhouses to old popcorn machines, and while the food is always fantastic, the creativity in how it’s served is the real attraction.
