Apr 11, 2025
Starting: 7:00 PM
Explore the complexities of love, identity and the roles we play in Katie Kitamura’s latest novel, Audition. On Friday, April 11, Books & Books in Coral Gables hosts an evening with the acclaimed author as she discusses her newest work, described as a taut and hypnotic exploration of performance and selfhood.
Tickets are required for this event and include a copy of Audition (Riverhead Books, $28), which will be distributed upon entry. Each ticket admits up to two guests to this engaging discussion about the shifting boundaries of relationships and the truths we mask through the roles we embody in life.
Audition weaves a compelling narrative around an actress preparing for her next big role and an enigmatic man whose connection to her unfolds in unexpected ways. The novel features an intricate, Möbius strip-like structure. It questions whether we ever truly know the people we love and challenges preconceptions about identity, art, and intimacy. Praised for its originality and disquieting beauty, Audition is a testament to Kitamura’s mastery of the craft.
Katie Kitamura is an award-winning author of four previous novels, including A Separation and Intimacies, which earned longlist recognitions for the National Book Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award.
