Beyond Nietzsche: The Music of Peter Gast
Sep 25, 2026
From: 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Live music and storytelling illuminate the overlooked work of composer Peter Gast and his close association with philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche at The Wolfsonian–FIU on Miami Beach. Presented Friday, September 25, the program combines performance and conversation to examine Gast’s musical career, his role as Nietzsche’s editor and collaborator and the lyrical compositions he left behind.
FIU associate professor of voice Robert B. Dundas joins Wolfsonian chief librarian Frank Luca and digitization specialist and soprano Hannah Gauthier for the program, accompanied by pianist Juvenal Correa-Salas. Together, they place Gast’s music within the context of his life and his intellectual and creative relationship with Nietzsche.
A reception begins at 7 p.m., followed by the live performance and conversation at 7:30 p.m. The event is presented with the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany and the FIU Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts. Admission is $10, with discounted or free admission available for qualifying members, FIU faculty and students.
