Apr 03, 2026
From: 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
A book-centered conversation explores Havana’s prohibition-era nightlife through literature, history and social observation.
Beyond the Pages: When It’s Cocktail Time in Cuba takes place on Friday, April 3 at The Wolfsonian-FIU on Miami Beach. The program focuses on British playwright and journalist Basil Woon’s When It’s Cocktail Time in Cuba, a vivid account of 1920s Havana that blends travel writing, cultural commentary and snapshots of the bars and clubs that drew American visitors during Prohibition.
Facilitated by The Wolfsonian’s chief librarian Frank Luca, the discussion situates Woon’s book within themes drawn from the museum’s collection and recent exhibitions. The event is part of the Beyond the Pages series, which examines novels and nonfiction through the lens of design, material culture and social history.
