BOOM! Elisa Turner on Miami’s Art Scene, Past and Present
Apr 20, 2026
From: 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM
A conversation with arts journalist Elisa Turner explores the evolution of Miami’s contemporary art scene through the lens of Bakehouse Art Complex. Taking place Monday, April 20, the program brings together historical perspective and firsthand insight into one of the city’s long-standing creative institutions.
Turner, a former Miami Herald reporter and author of Miami’s Art Boom, has documented the growth of the local arts community over several decades. Her work traces the development of artist-run spaces, galleries and cultural organizations that have contributed to Miami’s emergence as an international art destination.
Moderated by Bakehouse Senior Curatorial Fellow René Morales, the discussion examines the organization’s history alongside broader shifts in the city’s cultural landscape. The program offers context on key moments, artists and spaces that have shaped Miami’s art community over time.
