CAP Summer Series: Empire Wild

Genre-crossing cello, piano and vocal arrangements open the annual CAP Summer Concert Series in Coral Gables. CAP Summer Series: Empire Wild takes place Thursday, June 11 at Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ. The concert features Empire Wild, a crossover ensemble known for blending classical technique with repertoire that moves from Bach and Gershwin to the Beatles and contemporary sounds.

The ensemble features Juilliard-trained cellists Mitchell Lyon and Ken Kubota, with a performance style that brings together chamber music precision, improvisational energy and a wide-ranging sense of musical curiosity. Empire Wild received the Ambassador Prize from the Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition.

Presented by the Community Arts Program, the concert launches a summer series that has brought classical and jazz artists to Coral Gables since 1985. Performances take place inside Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ, a historic Spanish Revival-style church located across from the Biltmore Hotel and known for its intimate acoustic setting.
