Clifford and Emily Elizabeth make the leap from page to stage in a family musical about friendship, belonging and embracing what makes someone different. Clifford The Big Red Dog opens Miami Theater Center’s 2026–27 Family Series on Saturday, October 3, in Miami Shores. The all-ages production draws on Norman Bridwell’s long-running children’s book series, which introduced the oversized red dog to readers more than 60 years ago.
The story begins when Emily Elizabeth’s tiny puppy grows to enormous proportions, forcing her family to adjust to life with a house-sized dog. Concerned that his size is making it harder for Emily Elizabeth to make friends, Clifford wishes himself small, only to discover that being big becomes essential when an adventure puts his friends in trouble.
The musical launches a four-show Family Series that continues with The Snowy Day and Other Stories, The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System and Cat Kid Comic Club: The Musical.
