Curator's Choice: Just for Kicks
Aug 27, 2026
From: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Footwear becomes a lens on style, identity and collecting in a conversation with two Miami-based shoe enthusiasts at The Wolfsonian–FIU on Miami Beach. Taking place Thursday, August 27, the program pairs curator Danielle Charlap with digital creator Bianca DeRousse of ImSimplyB and Luis Valenzuela, founder and curator of the Miami Shoe Museum.
DeRousse brings a focus on sneaker culture, while Valenzuela draws from a collection that includes high-fashion heels. Their discussion explores the personal and cultural significance of collecting shoes, complementing the museum’s exhibition Foot Notes: Shoes, Symbolism, and Society.
The evening begins with a curator meet-and-greet from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by the conversation from 7 to 8 p.m. Admission is $10, with discounted tickets for members and FIU faculty and students.
