An award-winning Bulgarian pianist brings a program of French impressionism and Soviet modernism to Miami Beach.
Discovery Series: Emanuil Ivanov takes place Saturday, April 11 at The Wolfsonian - FIU, presented by the Miami International Piano Festival. The recital features Claude Debussy’s complete 24 Preludes alongside a selection of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Preludes and Fugues, pairing atmospheric color with contrapuntal intensity.
Ivanov gained international recognition after winning First Prize at the 2019 Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition. Since then, he has appeared at major venues including Teatro alla Scala in Milan and Munich’s Herkulessaal, with performances broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Rai Radio 3 and NHK Radio. A graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, he currently studies at London’s Royal Academy of Music as a Bicentenary Scholar.
Known for his clarity of voicing and refined dynamic control, Ivanov has toured extensively across Europe, Japan, South Africa and the United Kingdom. His recent projects include a Naxos recording of Scarlatti sonatas and performances of large-scale works such as Busoni’s Piano Concerto.
