Feb 14, 2026
From: 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM
Praised for his warm stage presence, provocative repertoire choices and a style Gramophone has called “sincere, communicative, and intelligent,” Canadian pianist Carter Johnson is rapidly establishing himself as one of the most compelling young artists of his generation. His performances, marked by both technical mastery and interpretive depth, have earned him recognition on international stages and success at some of the world’s most prestigious competitions.
Discovery Series: Johnson Carter takes place Saturday, February 14, 2026, at The Wolfsonian–FIU, presented by the Miami International Piano Festival. Johnson was a finalist in the 2025 Van Cliburn International Competition—the first Canadian ever to achieve this distinction—and captured first prize at the 2025 Dublin International Competition. His artistry has brought him to renowned halls from Montréal’s Maison Symphonique to the Warsaw National Philharmonic, with appearances alongside major orchestras including the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the Utah Symphony and the Orchestre Métropolitain.
Equally at home in solo, chamber and vocal repertoire, Johnson is admired for championing lesser-heard works by composers such as Grażyna Bacewicz, Francis Poulenc and Charles Ives, alongside his deep affinity for Bach and Schumann. An engaging communicator, he often weaves spoken insights into his recitals, enriching the listening experience for audiences of all backgrounds. His Miami debut offers a rare opportunity to hear a pianist whose artistry combines virtuosity, imagination, and a genuine spirit of connection.
