Drypoint Etching on Plexiglass
Aug 02, 2025 - Aug 09, 2025
weekly on Saturday
From: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Explore the tactile art of intaglio printmaking in a hands-on workshop focused on drypoint etching at Oolite Arts on Miami Beach.
Drypoint Etching on Plexiglass, offered over two consecutive Saturdays—August 2 and 9—introduces participants to the fundamentals of scratching directly into Plexiglas plates to create richly textured prints. This two-day workshop is geared toward beginners and covers everything from tool handling and mark-making techniques to inking, wiping and hand-printing. Through guided demonstrations and focused studio time, participants will learn how varying pressure and tool choice influence line quality and will leave with their own series of original drypoint prints.
All basic materials, including Plexiglas plates and drypoint tools, are provided. The workshop concludes with a group discussion and print sharing session to reflect on techniques and potential next steps in drypoint practice.
The class is taught by Jacoub Reyes, an artist and public academic whose work explores themes of colonialism, social response and ecosystems through the lens of his Caribbean and Pakistani heritage. Reyes holds a BFA in Drawing and Printmaking from the University of Central Florida and is a certified sustainable materials specialist through Parsons. He is currently an Oolite Arts Live.In.Art Resident, Artistic Director for the City of Boynton Beach’s Quantum Eco-Park, and President of the Florida Printmakers Society.
