Miami’s language wars of the early 1980s take center stage in a new drama exploring identity, power and belonging.
From January 29 to February 26, Miami New Drama premieres English Only at the Colony Theatre in Miami Beach. Set against the backdrop of the Mariel Boatlift, when 125,000 Cuban migrants arrived in South Florida, the play dramatizes the grassroots push to make English the county’s sole language and the community resistance that followed.
Based on true events, this world premiere captures a pivotal moment when Miami and the nation, confronted questions of culture, inclusion and the meaning of home.
Online ticket sales start on December 15.
