Jun 06, 2026
From: 10:00 AM to Noon
Royal Poinciana trees and historic neighborhood landmarks shape this guided walk through South Miami Avenue and Simpson Park. The tour takes place Saturday, June 6 as part of the Royal Poinciana Fiesta, an annual celebration of Miami-Dade County’s official tree. Presented in connection with Dade Heritage Trust and the Tropical Flowering Tree Society, the program explores the area’s natural and cultural heritage during the festival’s 89th year.
The walk will include Simpson Park and historic South Miami Avenue, where Royal Poincianas are part of the streetscape. Steve Pearson, former director of the University of Miami’s Gifford Arboretum and past president of the Tropical Flowering Tree Society, will discuss the tree’s significance in South Florida and its role in the region’s seasonal landscape.
After the tour, participants can gather for refreshments at Dade Heritage Trust headquarters and learn more about the organization’s work preserving Miami’s tangible heritage. Guests are encouraged to bring a water bottle and wear comfortable shoes.
