Hágase el Verso: Poesía reunida de José Martí
May 27, 2026
From: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
José Martí’s poetry and enduring intellectual legacy are the focus of a book launch hosted by the Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami Libraries. Hágase el Verso: Poesía reunida de José Martí takes place Wednesday, May 27 at the Roberto C. Goizueta Pavilion in the Otto G. Richter Library. The event honors Martí as a poet, exile and political thinker whose writing continues to shape conversations about Cuban identity, Latin America, democracy and belonging.
The new volume gathers Martí’s foundational poetic works, including Ismaelillo, Versos sencillos, Versos libres and Flores del destierro, in a single curated edition. It also includes rarely seen photographs and documents, offering readers a broader view of Martí’s life, literary work and vision of justice, dignity, freedom and human solidarity.
The panel features Sergio Andricaín, Uva de Aragón and Douglas Gómez Barrueta, with moderation by Kelly Martínez-Grandal and a welcome by Amanda T. Moreno-Schroeder, Esperanza Bravo de Varona Chair and director of the Cuban Heritage Collection. A curated selection of Martí-related materials will be on display, followed by an audience Q&A. The event is co-sponsored by Books & Books, Miami Book Fair and Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial.
