Sep 19, 2026
From: 11:00 AM to Noon
Rainwater harvesting, home landscaping and water conservation come together in a practical workshop at Miami Beach Botanical Garden. Taking place Saturday, September 19, the free program introduces homeowners to the benefits of rain barrels and their role in reducing outdoor water use, stormwater runoff and pollution. Attendees who complete the presentation qualify for a $50 rebate toward the purchase of a rain barrel for home installation, with a limit of two rebates per household.
The workshop covers Florida’s aquifers and drinking water supply, the need to protect local water resources and the 9 Principles of Florida-Friendly Landscaping™. Participants will also learn how rain barrels work, what components are needed, how to install one at home and how harvested rainwater can be used safely in gardens and landscapes.
The session is led by Solina Rulfs, an Urban Horticulture Program Specialist with UF/IFAS Extension in Miami-Dade County. Rulfs has supported Extension programs in nutrition, physical activity and edible gardening for youth and adults, and brings a focus on experiential environmental education.
