Keeping it Civil: 250 Years of Democracy
May 08, 2026
From: 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM
A community dialogue exploring the evolution of civic life in the United States takes place at the Miami Theater Center in Miami Shores as part of a recurring discussion series. Taking place on Friday, May 8, Keeping it Civil: 250 Years of Democracy and Where We Go Next is presented by South Florida People of Color and aligns with the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Structured as a fishbowl-style conversation, the program brings together organizers, artists, policy experts and community members to examine the historical and contemporary dimensions of democracy. The format encourages active participation, with speakers and attendees exchanging perspectives on topics such as voting legislation, civic engagement and the role of grassroots organizations.
Designed as both an educational and participatory experience, the series reflects on the ongoing development of civil society within a diverse, immigrant-driven region. The event is free and open to the public, with registration required.
