Kinoplex Friday Special Feature: Veronika Voss (1982)
Sep 18, 2026
From: 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM
Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s black-and-white melodrama about fame, addiction and postwar Germany gets a special Friday screening at Churchill’s Pub in Little Haiti. Kinoplex presents Veronika Voss on Friday, September 18, with guest host Osiel Gonzalez introducing the 1982 film.
Rosel Zech stars as a once-celebrated actress whose encounter with a sports journalist gradually exposes her dependence on morphine and the doctor who controls her access to it. Inspired in part by the life of German film star Sybille Schmitz, Veronika Voss is part of Fassbinder’s BRD Trilogy, alongside The Marriage of Maria Braun and Lola, which examine West Germany’s postwar years through the lives of three women. The film was Fassbinder’s penultimate feature before his death in 1982.
Kinoplex is a community-run screening series at Churchill’s that invites guest hosts to select films and introduce them to the audience. Its regular screenings take place Sunday evenings, with occasional special presentations such as this Friday feature.
